Contemporary Pagan Studies in the New York Times

The upcoming sessions of the Contemporary Pagan Studies Group at the American Academy of Religion's annual meeting are mentioned in the New York Times.

Some of us have been joking about "the I-word" (idolatry). I wondered if that would catch some journalist's interest.

Idolatry is a mainstay of our civic religion-- in the form of the worship of celebrities, sports, consumerism....etc.

But of course--sacred powers manifest through "celebrities" -- and usually cause a great deal of trouble in that person's life, because they do not understand who turned on the flow of energy, how to turn it off, or how to live with or without it.
