"Sheer Terror"
1. Being a teacher is like being a farmer; your life follows certain cycles. How did you feel whenever a new semester came around?
Sheer terror! Every class constitutes a performance -- a 16-week performance -- and you have stage fright. I was never sure if I had chosen a text that wouldn't work, that I'd make a fool of myself in front of the class.
Via University Diaries, who would probably agree that most academics are basically shy people required to give public performances.
Yep, it starts tomorrow.

I have felt your pain... *grin*
Is there a college-level equivalent of the K--12 school-starts nightmare? (Mine always involves losing track of time and students wandering out of class randomly without my ever having taken the attendance or started the lesson.)
May the Force be with you. Or something...
Good luck! I have another week to go before I get started. Today I am going to get my first couple of lectures finished on Powerpoint.
hey Chas do you ever utllize blogging in your classes? I am thinking of requiring my students this semester to create them for my classes in Cinema and the Occult and Supernatural Television; I'd love to hear from other pagan bloggers on their experiences...(hmm, maybe I should post to the pagan studies list as well)
Anyway, be well and have a great semester.
I have indeed used class blogs, particularly in nature-writing. My other blog started as a class blog -- if you look at the Jan.-April archives, you will see students writing.
Cool, thanks (very interesting blog BTW, I need to read it more often).
I think I am going to have students post to the blog I created (maybe enable their email adresses) and also assign them to create their own...
ha ha, that was me...new blogger ID created yesterday for hte blog; kind of a joke as the students call me by my first name no matter what I do..
